Abstract
Critical thinking ability is a very important skill for students to develop in the modern educational era. Critical thinking makes students think openly, be able to formulate problems clearly and precisely, collect and assess relevant information, use ideas to effectively interpret a conclusion by providing reasons and solutions, and be able to communicate effectively with other people. The integration of critical thinking skills can be encouraged by using learning models and supporting media, namely the 5E Learning Cycle model assisted by Crossword media. The subjects in this research were students of class IV A and IV B at SDN Manguharjo. The type of research approach is quantitative with a two group post test only research type that uses true experimental design, data collection techniques using tests and observation. Random or random sampling technique. The sample in this study was 46 students consisting of 23 class IV A students as the experimental class and 23 class IV B students as the control class. The data results show quite significant differences in students' critical thinking abilities between the critical thinking abilities of students who use the Learning Cycle 5E learning model assisted by Crossword and scientific learning assisted by Powerpoint media. So the results of the research decision show that the 5E Learning Cycle model assisted by Crossword is more effective than scientific learning assisted by Powerpoint media in terms of critical thinking abilities.
