Abstract

ABSTRACT Ervin Kusumawati, 2025. The Use of Pop-Up Book Media to Improve Activeness and Learning Outcomes in Social Studies for Third Grade Students of SDN Pangongangan, Manguharjo, Madiun City. Thesis. Madiun: Master Program of Social Science Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Prof. Dr. H. Parji, M.Pd. (II) Dr. Sudarmiani, M.Pd. Keywords: Pop-Up Book Media, Social Studies Learning, Student Activeness, Learning Outcomes, Grade III Elementary School. This study aims to describe: (1) the implementation of pop-up book media in Social Studies (IPS) learning, and (2) the improvement of student activeness and learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN Pangongangan, Manguharjo, Madiun City. This research used a classroom action research approach conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 22 third-grade students in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. The data analysis technique used qualitative descriptive analysis by presenting research reports using tables, graphs, and explanations. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of pop-up book media can improve the quality of the Social Studies learning process for third-grade students at SDN Pangongangan, Manguharjo, Madiun City. This media was able to attract students’ attention, make the material more concrete, and create a more interactive learning process. Student activeness increased in each cycle, as shown by the increased participation in discussions, asking questions, and involvement in learning activities. This was proven by the average activeness score in Cycle I, which was 32%, increasing to 90% in Cycle II. In addition, students’ learning outcomes also improved, as indicated by the increasing number of students achieving minimum mastery criteria in the final test of each cycle. This was proven by the average score in Cycle I, which was 68%, increasing to 90% in Cycle II.
