Abstract

Lailatul Khomsin Muyasyaroh. 2025. Mapping the Factors Causing Difficulties in Mastering Fluent Reading in Second-Grade Elementary School Students. Thesis. Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisor (1) Dr. Dewi Tryanasari, S.Pd., M.Pd. Supervisor (2) Dr. Sri Lestari, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to analyze difficulties in fluent reading in second-grade students at SDN Sidomulyo 01 and identify internal and external causal factors. The research method used was qualitative with a descriptive approach, involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students experienced difficulties in recognizing letters, combining sounds into words, and understanding reading content. Internal factors influencing these difficulties include low interest in learning, differences in intelligence levels, and physical health disorders. Meanwhile, external factors include lack of family support, limited learning facilities, and the influence of the social environment. This research is expected to provide insights for teachers and parents in improving students' reading skills and serve as a basis for further research on developing effective reading instructional methods.
