Abstract

This research was motivated by students' low understanding of Javanese script reading skills. This is caused by 2 things, namely (1) conditions Classes that are not conducive make learning not run well and (2) teachers have not found a learning model that can improve students' ability to read Javanese script. A model that can be a solution of this problem is the word square learning model. Model word square learning is a learning method that uses puzzles word puzzles to help students understand and engage with the lesson material. The aim of this research is to determine the improvement of reading skills Javanese script through the application of the word square model to language learning Java class V. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK). Subject This research consisted of 6 class V students. Data collection techniques obtained from performance tests, observations and documents. Qualitative data is used for data analysis. The conclusion from this research is that the word square model is successful improve Javanese script reading skills for class V SDN Ngelo 1. This proven by the results of the completion percentage in cycle I of 50% with a value. The student average obtained 65, increasing to 100% in the second cycle with grades student average 82.5.
