Abstract

Reading is an activity of seeing and understanding the contents of a text. Reading activities play an important role in a person's life, especially in terms of information and communication. In elementary schools, reading skills are basic skills that must be mastered by students, but until now there are still many elementary school students who still have difficulty reading. This study aims to describe the use of ABC teaching materials with the Iqro' method in early reading learning for grade I elementary school students. The subjects of this study were grade I teachers and grade I students of SDN Nampu 05 in the 2023/2024 academic year. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a case study approach. The research instruments are observation, interviews, validation questionnaires, performance tests and documentation. The results of the study showed that the use of ABC teaching materials with the Iqro' method had been implemented well for one week once. In the use of ABC teaching materials, the Iqro' method used in learning is the individual method. With the individual Iqro' method, reading learning for grade I students is more personal and focused. Teaching materials with an attractive appearance can certainly influence their interest in learning. With the ABC teaching materials using the Iqro' method, it will arouse students' interest in reading from an early age.
