Abstract
Reading skills are very important in life because every aspect of life cannot be separated from reading activities. The problem that arises in SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul, Madiun City is that reading skills in grade 2 elementary school students are very low and less than optimal in reading words or spelling letters, especially when reading short story texts. This study aims to determine the application of the paired storytelling based learning model using pop-up book media can improve the reading skills of grade 2 students of SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul. This study is a type of classroom action research (PTK) or Classroom Action Research. The subjects of this study were 18 students with details of 10 female students and 8 male students. Data collection techniques in this study were teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, tests, and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis in this study, the data obtained in cycle I obtained a percentage of 50% with details of 9 students who did not complete and 50% with a total of 9 students who completed. Then in cycle II there was an increase with a percentage of 90% with details of 16 students completing with a score above the KKM and 2 students who had not completed. From the data obtained in cycle I and cycle II, there can be an increase in the reading ability of class 2 students of SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul.
