Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of students' critical thinking skills in solving science problems on the subject of the state of matter and its changes in grade IV students of SDN Sogaten. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research. Qualitative descriptive research is a research approach that aims to describe certain phenomena in detail, producing descriptive data in the form of oral information and sources who are considered to have in-depth knowledge about the behavior of the object being observed. The subjects of the study were six grade IV students of SDN Sogaten. Subjects were taken based on the results of students' critical thinking skills tests which were categorized as two high-ability students, two medium-ability students, and two low-ability students. Data collection techniques were carried out using test methods, interviews, observations, and documentation. Data validity techniques were carried out by triangulation of sources and triangulation of techniques. Data analysis techniques were carried out with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that students in the high ability category showed very good critical thinking skills in all measured indicators and showed the ability to analyze a problem. Students in the medium ability category showed good critical thinking skills in several indicators such as formulating the main issues, choosing logical arguments, and drawing conclusions, but had difficulty in the indicators of revealing existing facts and detecting bias with different points of view. Students in the low ability category showed good critical thinking skills in the indicators of formulating the main issues and revealing existing facts, but had difficulty in the indicators of choosing logical arguments, detecting bias with different points of view, and drawing conclusions.
