Abstract
The Kurikulum Merdeka gives teachers flexibility to integrate local history into the history curriculum and classroom instruction; however, preliminary observations at SMAN 1 Madiun indicate that learning is still dominated by the lecture method without variation in strategies or media. This study aims to describe history teachers' strategies for integrating local history content into the Kurikulum Merdeka, analyze their implementation in the classroom, identify the obstacles teachers encounter, and examine students' responses. The study employs a qualitative approach using an embedded case study design, involving three grade levels at SMAN 1 Kota Madiun as the units of analysis. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation using the Spradley approach, and document study. The findings show that local history integration strategies differ across grade levels: the eleventh-grade teacher carried out a relatively complete integration process, the tenth-grade teacher focused on Dongkrek Art, and the twelfth-grade teacher directed students toward a critical analysis of the 1948 Madiun PKI Affair. Classroom instruction relied solely on the lecture method and student worksheets (LKS) without the use of instructional media. The main obstacles included limited local history references, time constraints, and students' initially low interest. Student responses varied according to their level of engagement in discussions
