Abstract
Peer pressure is pressure exerted by peers that can influence an individual’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Negative peer pressure can cause students to struggle to refuse invitations that do not align with their values and norms, fear being ostracized, and tend to conform to group behavior in order to gain social acceptance. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Role Reversal technique in reducing peer pressure among students. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students. The sample comprised 7 students who exhibited high levels of peer pressure based on the results of a preliminary study using a peer pressure questionnaire and were selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire that had passed validity and reliability tests. Data analysis was performed through a normality test using the Shapiro-Wilk test and a hypothesis test using the Paired Sample t-test. The results showed a decrease in peer pressure scores after students participated in group counseling using the Role Reversal technique. Based on the results of the Paired-Sample t-test using SPSS version 26, a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.018 was obtained, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05 (0.018 < 0.05). Thus, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. These results demonstrate that group counseling using the Role Reversal technique is effective in reducing peer pressure among students. This finding suggests that the Role Reversal technique serves as an intervention for addressing peer pressure.
