Abstract

The findings in the field indicate that there are school counselors (guidance and counseling teachers) in Sambong District who do not yet have a sufficient understanding of the Samin ethnic community and its teachings. Meanwhile, the Samin ethnic community possesses ancestral teachings, particularly patokan lelaku, which can be internalized by counselors to develop the ideal counselor personality competencies that are aligned with the local culture. This study aims to identify and describe the forms of patokan lelaku values of the Samin ethnic community that continue to be preserved and practiced in their daily lives, and that can be manifested, adapted, or used as a foundation for developing counselor personality competencies in the local context. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with an empirical phenomenological approach. The participants consisted of two leaders of the Samin ethnic community and two school counselors (guidance and counseling teachers) in the local area, who were selected based on specific considerations using snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The validity of the data was established through source triangulation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of three components: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study indicate that the patokan lelaku of the Samin ethnic community serves as a guideline for life that emphasizes the harmony of speech, thought, and behavior through the values of honesty, courtesy, responsibility, self-control, self-reflection, empathy, patience, simplicity, mutual cooperation, and social harmony. School counselors (guidance and counseling teachers) in Sambong District have generally demonstrated personality competencies in accordance with the Permendiknas No. 27 of 2008, although certain aspects, particularly emotional regulation, still require further improvement. The values of patokan lelaku can be integrated as a form of local wisdom to strengthen counselors' personality competencies, enabling them to become more ethical, humane, and responsive to the local cultural context.
