Elmi Andelli Imaningtyas. 2026. A Descriptive Study of the Implementation of the Free Expression Method Using Clay as a Medium in the Fine Arts Unit of the Arts, Culture, and Crafts Course for Fourth-Grade Elementary School Students. Thesis. Elementary Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI University of Madiun. Supervisior: (I) Hartini, S.Sn, M.Pd., (II) Sesaria Prima Yudhaningtyas, M.Pd. This study aims to describe the implementation process of the Free Expression learning method using clay as a medium in the fine arts curriculum for fourth-grade students at SDN Jatirejo Wonoasri, as well as to identify problems and solutions that arose during the implementation process based on the policy model proposed by Van Meter and Van Horn. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted at SDN Jatirejo, Wonoasri Subdistrict, Madiun Regency. Primary data were obtained through direct observation of the learning process and in-depth interviews with key informants, namely the fourth-grade homeroom teacher and student representatives. Data were analyzed inductively using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the field data. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Free Expression method using clay as a medium in the fourth-grade class at SDN Jatirejo proceeded very well, in an orderly and efficient manner, through three main stages: the initial stage, the core stage, and the closing stage. The use of the Free Expression method aided by clay media proved effective in stimulating students’ fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and imaginative courage without limiting their creative expression. Issues identified included technical factors, such as the LCD projector shutting down due to a drop in the school’s electrical power, which the teacher addressed through direct physical demonstrations; and psychological factors, such as anxiety.
