Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the 5E Learning Cycle model based on the Let's Read application on the reading interest of IV elementary school students. The problem underlying this study is the low interest in reading, especially in Indonesian language lessons, students are often only able to read texts mechanically without understanding the meaning contained in them and reading activities are considered only instructions from the teacher rather than understanding the content of the reading. The study used a quantitative approach with the Pre-Experimental Design method through the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study was conducted at Jiwan 01 Public Elementary School with a sample of 27 students IV selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests and questionnaires. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Paired Sample t-Test test assisted by SPSS version 25. The results showed that the average pre-test score of 55.74 increased to 87.93 in the post-test. The results of the reading interest questionnaire showed that 21 students were in the high category and 6 students were in the medium category. The results of the hypothesis test obtained a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 so that H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the 5E Learning Cycle model based on the Let's Read application has a significant effect on the reading interest of fourth-grade elementary school students. This learning model is able to increase student engagement, foster interest in reading activities, and create a more active and enjoyable learning experience.
