Abstract
ABSTRACT Tya Wulan Sari. 2025. The Use of Visual Media with the Acrostic Technique to Improve Poetry Writing and Reading Skills of Sixth-Grade Students at SD Negeri Tondomulo II. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Prof. Dr. Marheny Lukitasari, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Erlik Widiyani Styati, M.Pd. Keywords: Visual Media, Acrostic Technique, Poetry Writing, Poetry Reading. This study is a classroom action research (CAR) aimed at improving students’ poetry writing and poetry reading skills through the use of visual media combined with the acrostic technique among sixth-grade students of SDN Tondomulo II Kedungadem, Bojonegoro Regency. The research subjects consisted of 14 students. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research instruments included observation sheets for teacher and student activities, poetry writing tests, poetry reading tests, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the use of visual media combined with the acrostic technique significantly improves students’ poetry writing and reading skills. In the pre-cycle stage, students’ abilities in writing and reading poetry were relatively low and had not yet met the Minimum Mastery Criteria. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, there was an improvement in the average scores and learning mastery, although the indicators of success had not been fully achieved. In Cycle II, the improvement became more optimal, as shown by the increased class average scores and the achievement of classical learning mastery. The use of visual media helps students stimulate their imagination and enrich their vocabulary, while the acrostic technique assists students in organizing ideas and composing poetry lines systematically. In addition, students’ involvement in writing their own poems has a positive impact on their ability to read poetry expressively. Therefore, the use of visual media combined with the acrostic technique is effective in improving poetry writing and reading skills of elementary school students.
