Abstract

This study aims to determine and develop critical thinking skills through intensive Indonesian reading lessons in grade six of SDN 1 Gebangkerep in the 2025-2026 academic year using a deep learning approach. The data collection method for this qualitative study used interviews, observation, documentation, and field notes. The critical thinking aspects studied included comprehension, analysis, evaluation, synthesis, and conclusion-drawing skills. The learning strategies utilized discussions, questions and answers, concept mapping, and answering HOTS questions. The in-depth approach is reviewed from the learning principles, learning experiences, thinking frameworks, and graduate profile dimensions. From the research conducted, it was obtained that the initial condition before the intervention of the critical thinking skills of grade VI students of SDN 1 Gebangkerep was still low. Most students were only able to understand literal information, were not accustomed to presenting reasons, distinguishing facts from opinions, and were not yet able to draw logical and synthetic conclusions. The implementation of the In-Depth Learning Approach (ILP) in the post-intervention stage was proven to provide positive changes in the intensive reading process and critical thinking skills. The way to build critical thinking can be developed strongly when intensive reading learning through collaborative interactions, gradual guidance (scaffolding), reflective questions, selection of contextual reading materials, group discussions, educational games, and HOTS questions.
