Abstract

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, particularly ChatGPT, have had a significant impact on the world of education, including in the completion of academic assignments by students. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of students in the Accounting Education Program at PGRI University Madiun regarding the use of ChatGPT in supporting their academic assignments. This study employs a qualitative approach with data collection methods including questionnaires, in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that most students view ChatGPT as a useful tool for improving time efficiency and facilitating understanding of the material. However, concerns were also identified regarding the potential for dependency, a decline in critical thinking skills, and academic ethics issues. Students' perceptions are influenced by factors such as ease of use, reliability of information, and technological literacy. This study recommends the need for clear education and guidelines in the use of ChatGPT so that its utilization can be done ethically, responsibly, and support the development of students' independent learning
