Abstract
Speaking ability is one of the important aspects in early language development that needs to be developed early. However, children's speaking ability at KB Melati Pangkur still needs to be improved. One cause is that the learning process does not adequately provide opportunities for children to speak actively, and the use of teaching media is not optimal. This study aims to improve children's speaking ability using the Read Aloud technique through Big Book media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with a cyclic approach consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects are children of Playgroup (KB) Melati Pangkur totaling 18 children. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and assessment of children's speaking abilities, including the ability to compose 3-4 words into a simple sentence and naming objects. The results showed that applying the Read Aloud technique through Big Book media could improve children's speaking ability. Improvements were seen from observations showing total scores of Pre-C Cycle 48.6%, Cycle I total score rising to 59.7%, and Cycle II rising to 81.3%. Thus, the Read Aloud technique using Big Book media can be an effective alternative learning strategy in developing early childhood speaking abilities at KB Melati Pangkur.
