Abstract
This study was motivated by the low learning motivation and learning outcomes of Grade IV students at SDN 01 Taman Kota Madiun in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). In the pre-cycle stage, only 13.8% of students met the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM = 75), with an average score of 64.9, while only 28% of students were categorized as motivated learners. This study aimed to describe the implementation procedure of the Discovery Learning model assisted by audio-visual media, as well as to measure the improvement in student motivation and learning outcomes following the intervention. This study employed a mixed-method approach with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. Each cycle comprised the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 29 Grade IV students of SDN 01 Taman Kota Madiun. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, motivation questionnaires, observation, interviews, and documentation. The Discovery Learning model was implemented through six steps: stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data processing, verification, and conclusion drawing, utilizing Canva-based visual presentations and YouTube learning videos as audio-visual media. The results demonstrated significant and progressive improvement. Student learning motivation increased from an average of 66.5 (28% motivated) in the pre-cycle, to 74.3 (69% motivated) in Cycle I, and reached 83.8 (100% motivated) in Cycle II. Student learning outcomes also improved from an average of 64.9 (13.8% mastery) in the pre-cycle, to 73.4 (69% mastery) in Cycle I, and reached 82.4 (100% mastery) in Cycle II. All performance indicators were met and exceeded in Cycle II, and the study was declared successful. It is concluded that the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by audio-visual media effectively improved learning motivation and IPAS learning outcomes of Grade IV students at SDN 01 Taman Kota Madiun.
