Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of children at TK Harapan Plaosan to recognize simple geometric shapes. The children still struggled to name geometric shapes, recognize shapes in varying sizes and positions, and use geometric shapes to construct images. This study aimed to describe the implementation of task-based activities in introducing simple geometric shapes and to analyze the improvement in children's abilities following this implementation. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method across two cycles, comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 13 children from Group B at TK Harapan Plaosan. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and field notes, and subsequently analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results indicate that task-based activities—involving identifying shapes in real objects, describing shapes using appropriate vocabulary, recognizing shapes in different sizes and positions, and arranging shapes to form images—effectively improved the children's ability to recognize simple geometric shapes. Class mastery increased from 46.15% in the pre-cycle stage to 69.23% in Cycle I and 100% in Cycle II. Thus, task-based activities are effective in enhancing children's ability to recognize simple geometric shapes.
