Abstract
An understanding of geometric concepts serves as a foundation for elementary school students to comprehensively master mathematics. Students need to grasp these concepts to solve various real-life problems. Preliminary observations at SDN Grobogan 02 revealed an issue among fifth-grade students: a lack of understanding regarding geometric concepts. This was attributed to an instructional process that remained teacher-centered. Consequently, a student-centered approach specifically the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model was required. This study aimed to determine the effect of the CTL model, supported by the interactive "RUBAH" media, on the understanding of geometric concepts among fifth-grade elementary students. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design, specifically a post-test-only control group design. The study population consisted of all fifth-grade students in Cluster IV, Jiwan District, Madiun Regency. The sample comprised fifth-grade students from two classes at SDN Grobogan 02: Class V-A (23 students) served as the experimental group, and Class V-B (20 students) served as the control group. Data were collected using an instrument consisting of essay questions and analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using the Independent Sample t-test. The hypothesis test results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05); thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, indicating that the CTL model supported by the interactive RUBAH media had an effect on the understanding of geometric concepts among fifth-grade elementary students.
