The Effect of the Implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Approach on Poetry Reading Skill Achievement of Fifth-Grade Students at SD Negeri 1 Ngepeh, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency. Keywords: CTL approach, poetry reading skill achievement This research is a pre-experimental study involving one class as the experimental group, which aims to determine the effect of implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on poetry reading skill achievement of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngepeh, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency. This study refers to three indicators of learning effectiveness, namely the achievement of learning outcomes or mastery learning, student activities related to learning activities, and positive responses toward the implementation of learning using the CTL approach. The research design used was the One Group Pretest–Posttest design, which is an experiment conducted without a comparison group (control class) and includes a pretest and a posttest. The population of this study consisted of all fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngepeh, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency, with a research sample of 24 fifth-grade students. The study was conducted over six meetings. Data collection was carried out using learning outcome test instruments, consisting of an initial ability test administered before the implementation of the CTL approach (pretest) and a poetry reading test to determine students’ abilities after the implementation of the CTL approach (posttest). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that before the implementation of the CTL approach, 7 students (29.16%) were in the very low category, 9 students (37.55%) were in the low category, 4 students (16.66%) were in the moderate category, 1 student (4.16%) was in the high category, and 3 students (12.5%) were in the very high category, with an average score of 51.37. After the implementation of the CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) approach, the results showed that 5 students (20%) were in the low category, 5 students (20%) were in the high category, and 14 students (60%) were in the very high category, with an average score of 82.11 out of an ideal score of 100. Based on these findings, the CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) approach is effective in teaching poetry reading skills to fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngepeh, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency.
