Abstract

The four aspects of language skills, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing, are very important in everyday life. Listening is the most important aspect because it affects other language skills. The use of audio-visual media in learning can improve students' listening skills by making learning more interesting and interactive. Based on observations at SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul, the listening skills of grade IV students are still lacking, especially in understanding and answering questions from fairy tales read by the teacher. The causes of low listening skills include the lack of listening teaching materials, lack of teacher creativity, lack of media use, and monotonous learning methods. This study aims to determine the effect of using audio-visual media on the ability to listen to fairy tales in fourth grade students of SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul, Madiun City. This study used a Pre-Experimental Design experimental design with a population of all fourth grade students of SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul, totaling 28 students. Data collection techniques use tests to measure students' listening skills before and after the use of audio-visual media. The results showed that the use of audio-visual media had a significant effect on improving the ability to listen to fairy tales in grade IV students of SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul. This is evidenced by the results of statistical testing which shows a value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a significant increase in students' listening skills after using audio visual media. The use of audio-visual media is effective in improving the ability to listen to fairy tales in grade IV students of SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul. The implementation of this media in learning can make the learning process more interesting and improve students' understanding and memory of the material presented. Keywords: Listening, Audio Visual Media, Listening Skills, Learning, SDN 01 Nambangan Kidul.
