Abstract
This research aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the SAS (Synthetic Analytical Structural) method in the initial reading learning of class I students at SDN 1 Paju, Ponorogo District, Ponorogo Regency, 2) the application of the SAS (Synthetic Analytical Structural) method in the initial writing learning of class I students SDN 1 Paju, Ponorogo District, Ponorogo Regency, and 3) the obstacles and solutions faced by teachers in implementing the SAS (Synthetic Structural Analytical) method in learning to read and write beginning class I students at SDN 1 Paju, Ponorogo District, Ponorogo Regency. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, interviews and documentation. The technique used to analyze data in this research is the interactive model from Miles and Huberman. The results of this research are (1) the steps for applying the SAS (Synthetic Analytical Structural) method in beginning reading learning are appropriate so that it can improve students' beginning reading, (2) the steps for applying the SAS (Synthetic Analytical Structural) method in beginning writing learning according to the theory taken by researchers as a reference is appropriate so that it can improve students' initial writing, and (3) there are three obstacles faced by teachers, namely: 1) inadequate classroom facilities (not having an LCD projector), 2) there are several students who not mastering/not memorizing the letters, and 3) applying the SAS (Synthetic Structural Analytical) method takes a long time, so it makes students bored. The teacher's solution to these obstacles is 1) the teacher provides pictures in the form of print-outs, 2) the teacher trains students continuously and consistently, and 3) the teacher provides fun games in the middle of learning.
