Abstract
This study is a classroom action research aimed at: (1) the general objective of understanding the implementation of Big Book media in improving the reading skills of Grade II students at SDN 1 Madusari, and (2) specific objectives, including improving teachers' skills in using Big Book media, enhancing student engagement through new learning media, and improving learning outcomes, which ultimately boost the academic achievements of Grade II students at SDN 1 Madusari. The research was conducted over two cycles, consisting of four main components: planning, action implementation, evaluation, and reflection. Data collection was carried out through pre-tests, reading tests, and observations. The data obtained were then analyzed qualitatively. For the learning outcomes of cycle 1, an average N Gain of 66.7% was obtained in the low category, 26.7% in the medium category, and 6.7% in the high category. The average score of the reading skills obtained was 69.55 with a maximum score of 95 and a minimum score of 60. Although classically it has not reached completion, the number of students who have reached that level is 2 out of 5 students or the learning completeness in cycle 1 is 26.7%, there are still many students who have not completed it. This means that students' ability to implement active learning through Big Book media has not been effective in improving learning outcomes. Thus, the indicators of the success of this study have not reached the standard. For this reason, the research was continued to cycle 2 to try to improve the results of cycle 1. The learning outcomes of cycle 2 were obtained with an average N - Gain of 0% with the low category, 60% with the medium category and 40% with the high category. This shows that students' ability to implement active learning through Big Book media is effective and significant in improving learning outcomes. Thus, the indicators of the success of this research have been achieved and the average student has reached the standard of completeness. The average indigo reading skill results obtained were 86.36 with a maximum score of 100. Classically, it has reached the level of completeness, the number of students has reached the level of 100%. While the N - Gain value was obtained 0.71 (high). The completeness score achieved by students in cycle 2 showed a percentage of 100%, meaning that after class actions were carried out in the second cycle, the success of learning outcomes showed a significant value, when compared to the activities of the first cycle. Thus, the improvement of student learning outcomes after class actions shows the level of success of teachers in implementing the reading learning model using Big Book media.
