Abstract
The ability to solve problems, especially cube and block volume problems, is important for students to have. However, each student has a different way of solving problems. One of the differences between students lies in the students' cognitive styles. The aim of this research is to describe the profile of field dependent cognitive style students' abilities in solving cube and block volume problems for fifth grade elementary school students. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The determination of the subjects in this research was based on the results of the GEFT test and the problem solving ability test of class V students at SDN 01 Mojorejo so that the subjects chosen were 3 field dependent cognitive style students with high, medium and low problem solving abilities. The instruments used in this research were the GEFT test, problem solving ability test, interviews and documentation. Data collection techniques in this research are tests, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data in this study uses time triangulation. . Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research are 1) Field dependent cognitive style students with high abilities can master all stages of solving problems well. 2) Field dependent cognitive style students with moderate ability can master two of the four stages of problem solving ability and are quite good at calculating the solution at each step. 3) Students with a field dependent cognitive style with low ability can master two of the four stages of solving problems but are not good at calculating the solution at each step.
