Abstract

Reading ability is an important prerequisite for mastery and improvement of students' knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of literacy of local culture-based picture book literacy on the reading ability of students at SDN 3 Sambongrejo. The research method used is a quantitative approach using pretest and posttest used to describe the population in this study. The research instruments used are written test sheets and documentation. The validation used was a validity test and a reliability test, while the data analysis used was a normality test and a reliability test. In this study, it was not carried out during learning but in literacy activities carried out 15 minutes before learning. The researcher uses constructivist theory by Jean Piaget as the theoretical basis, the subjects of this study are 10 third grade students of SDN 3 Sambongrejo. Based on the results of the research and data analysis that has been carried out, the researcher found the influence of literacy activities with the help of local culture-based picture storybooks with an average score of 58.00 for the pretest score while the posttest score got an average of 70.00, so it was concluded that there was an influence of reading literacy activities with the help of local culture-based picture books on the reading ability of grade III students at SDN 3 Sambongrejo.
