Abstract

Students' thinking skills are students' test scores after completing a lesson or problem. This study aims to determine whether the use of the PBL model assisted by question card media is effective for the thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students. The subjects in this study were students of grades V A and V B of SDN 02 Mojorejo, Madiun City. The type of approach in the study was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design research type using a control group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used a saturated sampling technique, the sample in this study was 56 students divided into two classes. In SDN 02 Mojorejo, class V A as the experimental class was given treatment using the PBL model and in class V B as the Control class was given treatment using direct learning. The instrument used for data collection was the provision of pretest and posttest questions on the indicator of critical thinking skills in mathematics lessons. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a difference between the classes given treatment with the PBL learning model assisted by question cards having a higher average with a value of 82.68 than the class using the direct learning model with an average value of 76.79. This can be interpreted that the class with a higher average means that students' critical thinking skills in mathematics are better. The technique used for data processing is to conduct normality and homogeneity tests then continued with the independent sample T test. The results of the study obtained a p-value <0.05, namely 0.005 <0.05 so that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. So the Problem Based Learning model assisted by question card media is effective for critical thinking skills in mathematics of grade V students.
