Abstract

This research is based on problems that occur in the field, namely the lack of reading ability in grade 1 students at SDN 01 Winongo, Madiun City. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of big book media on the reading ability of grade 1 students at SDN 01 Winongo, Madiun City. This research is a type of quantitative research with a quasi-experimental type of research with a pretest- posttest control group design. The sample used was class 1 students at SDN 01 Winongo taken using a simple random sampling technique with class 1A totaling 28 children as the experimental class and class 1B totaling 28 children as the experimental class using big book media. The data collection technique in this research is using tests. The data analysis in this research includes a normality test using the Shapiro Wilk test and a homogeneity test in the experimental class and control class. Next, it will be tested to check the hypothesis. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the test result data from the two classes were normal and homogeneous. Then the data will be analyzed using the t test. The t test results show that the average value of the experimental class is 90.00 and the control class is 79.46 and the p-velue value in each class is 0.001 with a significance level of 5%, so Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. The conclusion of this research shows that the use of big book media is effective on the reading ability of grade 1 students at SDN 01 Winongo, Madiun City.
