Abstract

Phubbing behavior is indifferent behavior that is carried out towards others by focusing on the Smartphone. Generation Z is the generation that has the most potential to utilize technology, especially Smartphones. But it is undeniable that the use of Smartphones will cause a new social problem, namely Phubbing. This study aims to determine the role of counselors in handling Phubbing behavior in grade XI students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative research method with a case study type of research. The results of the study show that the role of counselors is very important in dealing with Phubbing behavior carried out by students, in handling the three counselors use individual counseling services because they are more effective than other counseling guidance services. The data collection method used was interviews and observations conducted with three informants to examine the Role of Counselors in Handling Phubbing Behavior of Class XI Students at SMK Gamaliel 1 Madiun. Based on the results of the research, the role of counselors in handling student behavior is successful by using the Self Management method or self-control applied to counseling in each counseling. It was found that AO counselors changed within five weeks, VW counselors experienced behavioral changes within three weeks and DS counselors within two weeks.
