Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the improvement of speaking skills among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Gabusbanaran, Tembelang District, Jombang Regency, through the implementation of the visual-aided concise note-taking method in Indonesian language instruction, and (2) the obstacles encountered during the implementation of this method, as well as potential solutions to address them. This study is a classroom action research project conducted over two cycles. The results indicate that (1) the visual-aided concise note-taking method successfully improved the speaking skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Gabusbanaran. This success aligns with more effective and efficient classroom management techniques, particularly in engaging students who were previously passive during the teaching-learning process. Educators must employ specific approaches—providing motivation, guidance, and direct instruction—to address these needs. Equally important for enhancing student comprehension is the use of visual media depicting daily activities and themes; this encourages students to draw upon and express their existing vocabulary. Meanwhile, (2) the obstacles identified during the implementation of the method included time management, students' ability to develop ideas and construct oral sentences, and feelings of shyness, low self-confidence, and fear of making mistakes when speaking in front of the class.
