Abstract
The problem of this study was the low communication skills and social studies learning outcomes of Class VIII-F students at SMP Negeri 6 Madiun. During the learning process, most students were still passive in expressing opinions, participating in discussions, asking questions, and presenting group work. In addition, students’ learning outcomes had not yet reached the expected level of mastery. One alternative solution to overcome these problems is the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by diorama media, which emphasizes project-based activities, collaboration, and the presentation of tangible products. This study aimed to: (1) determine the improvement of students’ communication skills through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by diorama media for Class VIII-F students of SMP Negeri 6 Madiun; and (2) determine the improvement of social studies learning outcomes through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by diorama media for Class VIII-F students of SMP Negeri 6 Madiun. This research was conducted as Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by diorama media. The study was carried out in Class VIII-F of SMP Negeri 6 Madiun during the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The research consisted of two cycles, each including four stages: (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Data were collected through observation, tests, documentation, and field notes. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that: (1) the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by diorama media in social studies learning improved students’ communication skills. Communication skills increased from 39.3% in the pre-cycle to 60.1% in Cycle I and further increased to 84% in Cycle II. The mastery level of communication skills improved from 47% in Cycle I to 100% in Cycle II; (2) the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by diorama media in social studies learning improved students’ learning outcomes. The average learning outcome score increased from 68.93 in the pre-cycle to 74.3 in Cycle I and to 83.1 in Cycle II. Classical learning mastery increased from 40% in the pre-cycle to 57% in Cycle I and reached 83% in Cycle II
