Keywords: writing, reading, and synthetic structural analysis This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method in learning to read beginning students of grade 2 of Jogoroto State Elementary School, Jogoroto District, Jombang Regency, 2) the application of the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method in learning to write beginning students of grade 2 of Jogoroto State Elementary School, Jogoroto District, Jombang Regency, and 3) the obstacles and solutions faced by teachers in applying the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method in learning to read and write beginning students of grade 2 of Jogoroto State Elementary School, Jogoroto District, Jombang Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study are through observation, interviews, and documentation. The technique used to analyze the data in this study is the interactive model from Miles and Huberman. The results of this study nentral that (1) the steps for applying the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method in learning to read beginning students are appropriate so that it can improve students' beginning reading, (2) the steps for implementing the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method in learning to write beginnings according to the theory taken by the researcher as a reference are appropriate so that it can improve students' beginning writing, and (3) There are three obstacles faced by teachers, namely: 1) inadequate facilities in the classroom (not having an LCD projector), 2) there are several students who do not master/do not memorize letters, and 3) the application of the SAS (Structural Analytical Synthetic) method takes a long time, so that it makes students bored. The teacher's solution to these obstacles, namely 1) the teacher provides pictures in the form of print-outs, 2) the teacher trains students continuously and consistently, and 3) the teacher provides fun games in the middle of learning.
