Abstract
ABSTRACT Ayu Adha Rahmawati 2026. Improving Descriptive Writing Competences Using Collage Media for Grade III Students at SD Negeri Japanan 1, Gudo District, Jombang Regency. Thesis. Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Dwi Setiyadi, M.M.; (II) Dr. Fida Chasanatun, M.Pd. Keywords: Writing Competences, Description, Collage Image Media. This study aims to describe the application of collage image media in descriptive writing instruction and to improve the descriptive writing competences of third-grade students at SD Negeri Japanan 1, Gudo District, Jombang Regency. The background of this research is the low descriptive writing competences of students, as indicated by a pre-cycle average score of 57.19 with a learning completeness percentage of only 25.00%. This condition was caused by the suboptimal use of learning media and students' difficulties in developing ideas, choosing vocabulary, and organizing descriptive paragraphs coherently. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 16 students, including 6 boys and 10 girls. Data collection techniques involved both tests and non-tests, including observation and interviews. The research procedures included planning, action, observation, and reflection in each cycle. The results showed a significant increase in each cycle, specifically: (1) Learning Implementation: teacher performance increased from 77.78% in Cycle I to 100% in Cycle II, and student activity increased to reach 85.31% in Cycle II. (2) Writing Competence: the percentage of writing competences improved from 57.19% in the pre-cycle to 67.81% in Cycle I and further to 81.56% in Cycle II. The class average score also rose from 57.19 to 67.81, and then to 81.56. Classical learning completeness increased from 25.00% (4 students) in the pre-cycle to 43.75% (7 students) in Cycle I, reaching 93.75% (15 students) in Cycle II. Consequently, the application of collage image media is proven to be effective in improving the descriptive writing competences of third-grade students at SD Negeri Japanan 1, Gudo District, Jombang Regency.
