Keywords: reading, starters, media, and puzzle cards This study aims to describe (1) the use of puzzle card media can improve the initial reading skills of second-grade students of Sidowarek 2 Elementary School, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of second-grade students of Sidowarek 2 Elementary School, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency in learning to read beginning using puzzle card media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the use of puzzle card media can improve the initial reading skills of second-grade students of Sidowarek 2 Elementary School, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency. This is evidenced by the students' activities when using puzzle media during learning being good and very good, not only getting a good response from students but from class teachers and parents of students responding well to the use of puzzle card media during learning in class, and (2) the learning outcomes of second-grade students of Sidowarek 2 Elementary School, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency in early reading learning using puzzle card media have increased. This is evidenced by the fact that in cycle I, 10 out of 18 students achieved the KKM with an average overall score of 67.22 (56%), followed by an increase in cycle II, where 15 out of 18 students achieved the KKM with an average score of 80.55 (83%).
