Improving Free-Verse Poetry Writing Skills Using the Surrounding Environment as a Medium for Sixth-Grade Students at SD Islamic International School (IIS) PSM Magetan, Magetan Regency. Thesis. Master's Degree Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Postgraduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: improvement, poetry text writing, surrounding environment medium This study aims to improve the skills of sixth-grade students at SD IIS PSM Magetan in writing free-verse poetry. The implementation issues in the learning process are evidenced by the pre-cycle phase results, which yielded an average score of 52.97. This indicates that the initial outcomes of poetry writing instruction among the sixth-grade students were low, necessitating instructional improvements to enhance learning outcomes. The corrective solution proposed by the researcher is the implementation of the surrounding environment as a learning medium in poetry writing instruction. The improvement in the learning process is indicated by increased student engagement during observations. The teacher's activity observation score in Cycle I was 80.36%, rising to 91.07% in Cycle II. Concurrently, the student activity observation score was 78.57% in Cycle I and increased to 87.50% in Cycle II. The improvement in terms of learning outcomes for poetry text writing is demonstrated by the students' average score, which progressed from 74.39 in Cycle I to 86.25 in Cycle II. In conclusion, the application of the surrounding environment as a medium successfully enhances free-verse poetry instruction in terms of both the learning process and student outcomes.
