This research is motivated by the low narrative writing skills of elementary school students, particularly in developing ideas, organizing story plots, and expressing ideas coherently and creatively. Learning that does not actively involve students tends to result in low interest and motivation in writing. Therefore, an innovative and participatory learning medium is needed, one of which is student-created comics with local wisdom themes. The objective of this study is to improve students’ narrative writing skills and to describe the process and outcomes of the improvement through the use of student-created comics with local wisdom themes. This study employs a qualitative approach with a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. The subjects were fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Botoputih, Kabupaten Trenggalek. Data were collected through observation, interviews, narrative writing tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that the use of student-created comics with local wisdom themes significantly improves students’ narrative writing skills. Students become more active in developing story ideas, are able to organize coherent plots, and demonstrate creativity in combining images and text. In addition, students show high enthusiasm as they are directly involved in the comic creation process related to their local cultural context. In conclusion, student-created comics with local wisdom themes are effective in improving narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Botoputih, Kabupaten Trenggalek.
