Abstract

Social interaction is an essential ability that adolescents need to establish relationships with their surrounding environment. The rapid development of social media, particularly TikTok, is assumed to influence adolescents' social interactions. In addition, self-regulation plays an important role in controlling social media use so that it does not interfere with social activities. This study aimed to determine the effect of TikTok usage intensity on social interaction, the effect of self-regulation on social interaction, and the simultaneous effect of TikTok usage intensity and self-regulation on the social interaction of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Maospati. This study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto method with a correlational research design. The population consisted of approximately 300 students, while the sample comprised 50 students selected through random sampling. The research instruments were questionnaires X1, X2, and Y that had met the validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and the coefficient of determination. The results showed that TikTok usage intensity had no significant effect on social interaction (Sig. = 0.135 > 0.05), self-regulation had no significant effect on social interaction (Sig. = 0.059 > 0.05), and both variables simultaneously had no significant effect on social interaction (Sig. = 0.069 > 0.05). These findings indicate that students' social interaction is influenced more by other factors beyond the variables and indicators examined in this study.
