Abstract
This study aims to describe the improvement of students’ narrative writing skills and learning activities through an integrated learning method based on reading and writing literacy assisted by photo story media among upper-grade students at SD Negeri Banjarpanjang 2, Ngariboyo District, Magetan Regency, East Java Province. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles. The results were based on observations of students’ activities in each cycle. In Cycle I, student activity reached a total score of 20.99, with an average score of 2.33. In Cycle II, student activity increased to a total score of 25.80, with an average score of 2.87. Students’ narrative writing skills also improved, with the average score increasing from 67.89 and a classical mastery rate of 42.11% in Cycle I to an average score of 78.42 and a classical mastery rate of 94.74% in Cycle II. Therefore, the implementation of the integrated learning method based on reading and writing literacy assisted by photo story media can improve students’ learning activities and narrative writing skills and achieve the research success criteria, namely a classical mastery rate of at least 80% with a minimum competency criterion (KKM) of ≥70.
