Abstract

This study aims to describe the dynamics of social interaction among migrant students, the factors influencing social interaction, and the impacts on the academic process and social life of students. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of this study were migrant students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at UNIPMA. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. This research was conducted at UNIPMA involving six migrant students. Migrant students are individuals who come from outside the region and must adapt to new social, cultural, and academic environments. This adaptation process creates various dynamics of social interaction, particularly within the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the dynamics of social interaction among migrant students are influenced by cultural differences, language, personality, and social environmental support. Migrant students who are able to adapt well tend to have positive social interactions, increased self-confidence, and harmonious social relationships. Conversely, students who experience adaptation barriers tend to face difficulties in communication and social interaction. Therefore, the role of the study program and guidance and counseling services is highly needed to assist migrant students in improving their social interaction skills.
