Abstract
ABSTRACT Sumarsih. 2026. Application of the Active Learning Model of Role Reversal Question Type to Improve Students' Active Participation and Learning Outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) Among Fifth-Grade Students at SDN 02 Klegen, Madiun City. Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Degree Program in Social Studies Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Sudarmiani, M.Pd., (II) Dr. Yudi Hartono, M.Pd. Keywords: active learning, role reversal question, active participation, learning outcomes, IPAS, elementary school This study aims to improve students' active participation and learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning through the implementation of the Role Reversal Question type Active Learning model. The background of this study is the low level of student participation and learning outcomes resulting from teacher centered instruction. The study utilized Classroom Action Research (CAR) following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects consisted of 21 fifth-grade students at SDN 02 Klegen, Madiun City. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, and documentation, with data analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed a significant increase in both student active participation and learning outcomes. Student active participation increased from 45% in the pre-action phase to 68% in Cycle I and 85% in Cycle II. The students' average score also increased from 65 to 72 and 82, with learning mastery rising from 40% to 68% and 85%. The N-Gain analysis result of 0.49 indicated a moderate improvement category. These findings prove that the Role Reversal Question model is effective in enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. Thus, the implementation of student-centered active learning contributes significantly to improving the quality of the learning process and outcomes in elementary school IPAS instruction.
