Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: Communicative Approach, Speaking Learning, Picture Media, Case Study, Elementary School. This research is motivated by the low speaking skills of third-grade students at SD Negeri Taji, Kabupaten Magetan, reflected in a lack of self-confidence, difficulty in organizing spoken sentences coherently, and limited vocabulary in communication. The objective is to describe the implementation of a communicative approach in speaking learning supported by picture media and to analyze its impact on students' speaking skills. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were third-grade students. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis of recorded student conversations, then analyzed using interactive descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that picture media help students concretize ideas and trigger curiosity, making it easier for them to initiate conversations. The communicative approach encourages active interaction through question-and-answer, small group discussions, and role-playing, which significantly enhances students' confidence and fluency in speaking. Students' vocabulary also developed more rapidly because learning took place in meaningful contexts close to their experiences. In conclusion, the implementation of the communicative approach supported by picture media is effective and is recommended as an innovation for speaking instruction in elementary schools.
