Abstract

This study aims to describe the syntactic structures of Indonesian used in You Tube comment sections, identify the types of sentences that appear, and explain the forms of Indonesian language adaptation in digital communication. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The data source consists of 100 Indonesian-language comments from a You Tube channel selected via purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using documentation, observation (*simak*), and note-taking techniques. Data analysis utilized an interactive analysis model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through theoretical triangulation and persistent observation. The research results indicate that: (1) the syntactic structures found include S-P, S-P-O, S-P-Pel, S-P-K, and S-P-O-K patterns, as well as minor sentences involving the ellipsis of certain elements; (2) the sentence types used consist of declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamative sentences, with declarative sentences being the most dominant form; (3) Indonesian language adaptation in You Tube comment sections is characterized by the use of concise sentences, the omission of subject or predicate elements, the use of abbreviations, acronyms, non-standard words, and expressive elements, as well as code-mixing that still effectively conveys meaning; and (4) the syntactic characteristics of You Tube comments demonstrate that digital communication fosters the formation of sentence structures that are simpler, more efficient, and communicative without losing the primary function of conveying messages. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of research on Indonesian syntax—particularly within the realm of digital communication—and serve as a reference for Indonesian language instruction that utilizes authentic data from social media.
