Abstract
Roken Sacti Udhiyanny. 2026. A Comparative Study of Numeracy Skills Using the CIRC Model Assisted by Bigzle and Popzle Media among Third-Grade Elementary School Students. Undergraduate Thesis. Primary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisor (I) Dr. Elly’s Mersina Mursidik, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Supervisor (II) Dr. Rissa Prima Kurniawati, M.Pd. This study aims to determine the difference in mathematical numeracy skills between third-grade elementary school students taught using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model assisted by Bigzle media and those taught using the CIRC model assisted by Popzle media. The study employs a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent group posttest design. The sample consisted of 40 students selected via purposive sampling: 20 third-grade students from SDN Tambakromo 1 (Experimental Class I) and 20 third-grade students from SDN Keniten 1 (Experimental Class II). Data were collected through a mathematical numeracy skills test comprising 10 essay questions on the topic of data presentation in tables. The test instrument measured students' abilities to comprehend information, process data, and present data in accordance with mathematical numeracy indicators. Bigzle and Popzle media served as instructional aids to support student activities in understanding data presentation material visually and concretely. Implementing the CIRC model with these media provided students with opportunities to read, discuss, collaborate, and systematically formulate problem solutions. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and the Independent Samples t-Test via SPSS 26 at a significance level of 0.05. The results indicate that the data for both groups were normally distributed and possessed homogeneous variances. The mean posttest score for Experimental Class I (CIRC model with Bigzle media) was 76.90, while the mean score for Experimental Class II (CIRC model with Popzle media) was 68.50. The hypothesis test yielded a Sig. value... The (2-tailed) value was 0.033 < 0.05; therefore, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Thus, there was a significant difference in mathematical numeracy skills between the two groups. The use of the CIRC model assisted by Bigzle media resulted in better mathematical numeracy skills compared to the use of the CIRC model assisted by Popzle media among third-grade elementary school students. Keywords: CIRC, Bigzle media, Popzle media, mathematical numeracy skills.
