Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the implementation of TPACK in understanding information in Observation Report Texts in Indonesian language learning in Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Lengkong, (2) the implementation of ChatGPT in understanding information in Observation Report Texts in Indonesian language learning in Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Lengkong, and (3) the learning outcomes of understanding information in Observation Report Texts by implementing the TPACK approach and the use of ChatGPT in classroom learning. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and pre-test-post-test assessments. First, the results of this study prove that the TPACK approach was successfully implemented effectively and contextually by the three teachers with different characteristics. Second, this study reveals that ChatGPT can be utilized as an effective learning tool to enhance understanding of information in Observation Report Texts when used with appropriate pedagogical approaches. Third, the learning outcomes based on pre-test-post-test comparisons show significant improvement. Class VIII-A increased by 47.2% (58.2→85.7), VIII-B by 41.3% (61.8→87.3), and VIII-C by 38.3% (64.5→89.2). Overall, there was an average increase of 42.3% with a classical mastery rate of 95.3%. Statistical tests confirm a highly significant improvement (p < 0.001) with a very large effect size (Cohen's d > 2.9).
