Abstract

Asda Lita Arrova. 2025. The Use of Discovery Learning Method and the Film “Buku Harianku” in Teaching Descriptive Text Writing Skills to Grade 5C Students of SD Negeri 1 Mangkujayan. Thesis. Madiun: Magister Study Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisor Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd., Co Advisor Dr. Agung Nasrulloh Saputro, M.Pd. Keywords: Discovery Learning, “Buku Harianku” Film, Descriptive Text, Writing Skills, Qualitative Research, Elementary School Students This study uses a qualitative method to achieve three primary objectives: (1) to describe the implementation of the Discovery Learning method combined with the film “Buku Harianku” in teaching descriptive text writing; (2) to identify the challenges arising during the learning process; and (3) to determine the solutions to address these issues for 5th-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Mangkujayan. The results indicate that the integration of the Discovery Learning method and the film “Buku Harianku” has a positive impact on both the learning process and students' writing outcomes. The findings demonstrate that: The implementation is executed effectively through stages of stimulation, data collection, and data processing, encouraging students to independently generate writing ideas based on their observations of the film; This approach significantly enhances students' motivation, engagement, and writing quality-particularly in terms of content, detail, and vocabulary-despite minor persistent issues in spelling and sentence structure; The film “Buku Harianku” serves as a crucial stimulus, providing concrete visual and emotional experiences that help students identify descriptive elements such as characters, setting, atmosphere, and moral messages. In conclusion, the combination of Discovery Learning and film media is an effective strategy for developing students' descriptive writing abilities by enriching their vocabulary and emotional expression.
