Keywords: speaking, methods, extemporaneous, and poster media This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the small notes method assisted by poster media can improve the speaking skills of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Tanjungkalang, Ngronggot District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Tanjungkalang, Ngronggot District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to speak using the small notes method assisted by poster media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are: (1) the small notes method assisted by poster media can improve the speaking skills of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Tanjungkalang, Ngronggot District, Nganjuk Regency. This is in accordance with more effective and efficient classroom management techniques, especially in dealing with students who are not active in participating in the teaching and learning process. An educator must take a special approach and provide motivation, advice and direct teaching. No less important things that need to be considered by an educator to be able to improve student understanding, namely having to display media and provide themes and pictures of daily activities, so that students can use all the vocabulary they have in themselves, and (2) the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Tanjungkalang, Ngronggot District, Nganjuk Regency, in speaking lessons using the short notes method assisted by poster media have increased. In cycle I, the average score of student learning outcomes was 68.83. In cycle II, the average score obtained by students was 77.5. These changes in student learning outcomes can have a positive impact on student achievement..
