Abstract
Gestiningsih, Hermin. 2025. Improving Descriptive Text Reading Skills with the Assistance of Video Media for Grade VI Students of SDN Widodaren 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Muhammad Binur Huda, M.Pd Keywords: reading ability, descriptive text, video media. This study aims to improve students’ ability to read descriptive texts through the use of video media for sixth-grade students of SDN Widodaren 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency. The background of this research is based on the low reading ability of students in understanding descriptive texts, as indicated by difficulties in comprehending the content, identifying object characteristics, and determining important information in the text. Therefore, an innovative and contextual learning approach is needed to enhance students’ interest and reading skills. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were sixth-grade students of SDN Widodaren 2. Data were collected through descriptive reading ability xiii tests, observation sheets of teacher and student activities, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques to determine the improvement in students’ reading abilities. The results of the study indicate that the use of video media in teaching descriptive reading significantly improves students’ reading abilities. This improvement is reflected in better comprehension of text content, enhanced ability to identify object characteristics, and increased student participation during the learning process in each cycle.
