Abstract

Keywords: Tolerance, Social Awareness, Multicultural Education Multicultural education serves as an effective method in building children’s character at an early age by emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and attention to the social environment, especially in the context of the diversity of Indonesian society. This study aims to assess the implementation of multicultural education in strengthening attitudes of tolerance and social concern among students of Al Husna Kindergarten 2. The method used in this study is qualitative with a classroom action approach, which includes observation of the learning process, interviews, as well as analysis of documents and routine activities. The collected data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and inference techniques to gain an in-depth understanding of multiculturally focused educational practices. The findings of the study suggest that the integration of multicultural values through collaborative play activities, habituation of mutual appreciation, introduction of local cultures, as well as behaviors exemplified by teachers consistently can significantly advance learners’ abilities in accepting differences, collaborating, and showing empathy without making fun of or insulting peers. Learners showed improved skills in demonstrating tolerant attitudes, including sharing play equipment, showing social concern by providing assistance to friends experiencing difficulties, as well as wanting to comfort friends who were sad. These findings were reinforced by quantitative data that showed that 87% of students were receptive to differences from peers, 87% were willing to cooperate, 80% did not engage in ridicule or insults towards peers, 87% were willing to help peers in difficulty, 80% were willing to share toys or food, and 87% showed four sad or hurt. This study confirms that the application of well-designed, interesting, and relevant multicultural education has an excellent impact in growing the character of tolerance and social concern in learners.
