Abstract
Setyo Ari Wibowo, 2025. The Use of Project-Based Learning Models and Pop-Up Book Media on the Speaking Skills of First Grade Students at SDN 1 Nglaban, Nganjuk. Thesis. Madiun: Magister Study Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisor (I) Dr. Dwi Setiyadi, M.M (II) Dr. Heny Kusuma Widyaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: Project-Based Learning Model, Pop-Up Book Media, Speaking Skills, Elementary School Students. The stages of students’ development that need to be emphasized include speaking skills, as they play a major role in communication. One school in Nganjuk Regency, SD Negeri 1 Nglaban, has a distinctive advantage because it seeks to introduce students to effective communication patterns in daily life. Teachers are also required to implement a project-based learning model and pop-up book media to improve students’ speaking skills. This study aims to answer the following questions: how effective is the use of project-based learning models and pop-up book media on students’ speaking skills, how the project-based learning model and pop-up book media are implemented to enhance students’ speaking skills, and how students’ speaking skills develop through the use of project-based learning models and pop-up book media. This research employed a mixed-methods approach. The experimental design used was a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were first-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Nglaban, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency. The research instrument consisted of tests (pretest and posttest). The data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test to examine the equality of means after testing for normality and homogeneity, followed by an N-Gain test to determine effectiveness. The results of the data analysis indicate that the project-based learning model and pop-up book media are effective in improving students’ speaking skills. This is evidenced by the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) test result, which showed an N-Gain value of 0.79 > 0.7, indicating a high category. Furthermore, the implementation of the project-based learning model and pop-up book media was carried out continuously by engaging students in creating projects based on the stories contained in the pop-up books. Students’ speaking skills also showed significant development through the application of the learning model and media.
