Abstract
This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ ability to write simple short stories through the use of picture card media in Grade III of SD Negeri 4 Begadung, Nganjuk. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 21 students, including 11 male students and 10 female students, with a Minimum Mastery Criterion (MMC) of 76. Data were collected through simple short story writing tests, observation, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results of the study showed an improvement in students’ ability to write simple short stories after the implementation of picture card media. In the pre-cycle stage, the students’ average score was 62.14, with a learning mastery percentage of 33.33%. In Cycle I, the average score increased to 72.10, with a mastery percentage of 61.90%. Furthermore, in Cycle II, the students’ average score increased to 84.20, with the learning mastery percentage reaching 85.71%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of picture card media is effective in improving students’ ability to write simple short stories, as it helps students generate ideas, organize story sequences coherently, and increase students’ interest and learning motivation.
