Azizah, Yuliati Nur. 2025. Improving Critical Reading Skills Through Inspirational Story Text Media for VIth Grade Students of SDN Butoh II, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Keywords: Critical Reading, Inspirational Story Text, Classroom Action Research, Elementary School Students. This study aims to describe the implementation of inspirational story text media in critical reading instruction and to examine the improvement of critical reading skills of sixth-grade students at SDN Butoh II, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency through the use of such media. This research employed a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, involving 14 students as research participants. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observations of teacher and student activities, critical reading skill tests, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The indicators of critical reading skills measured included comprehension of text content, identification of important information, interpretation of implicit meaning, drawing conclusions, and providing critical responses to the text. The results indicate that the implementation of inspirational story text media was carried out effectively and showed continuous improvement across cycles. Teacher activity improved from the good category in Cycle I to the very good category in Cycle II, while student activity increased from sufficient to very good. Students’ critical reading skills also improved significantly, as evidenced by the increase in the class average score and learning mastery, with all students achieving the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC) in Cycle II.
